The Wonder Years

The Daddy of Golden Wonder's delicious crisps and snacks, was Scottish baker William Alexander. He created the first perfect pack back in 1947 and the Golden Wonder brand has become a favourite with snackers everywhere ever since.

  1. 1947 The first Golden Wonder crisp is created

    The Queen & Prince Phillip marry at Westminster Abbey. While north of the border, William Alexander makes his first batch of Golden Wonder potato crisps.

  2. 1960 Golden Wonder becomes brand leader in Scotland

    At the Summer Olympics in Rome Britain comes a disappointing 12th in the medal table while Golden Wonder takes the gold by becoming the leading crisp brand in Scotland.

  3. 1962 The first Golden Wonder flavoured crisp

    The Rolling Stones make their debut at London’s Marque Club and Golden Wonder debut our first flavoured crisp, Cheese & Onion.

  4. 1964 Golden Wonder opens the world’s largest crisp factory

    Donald Campbell smashes the world water speed record in Australia. Meanwhile in Corby, Northamptonshire, Golden Wonder opens the world’s largest crisp and snack factory.

  5. 1965 Golden Wonder premieres new ‘Crackle Fresh’ packaging

    The Beatles film ‘Help!’ premieres at the London Pavillion. Meanwhile, Golden Wonder premieres our new ‘Crackle Fresh’ packaging to keep crisps fresher for longer.

  6. 1966 Golden Wonder become 5th biggest grocery brand in the UK

    England beat West Germany 4-2 in the World Cup Final. And Golden Wonder beat the rest to become the UK’s leading crisps manufacturer and 5th biggest grocery brand.

  7. 1977 Golden Wonder launches space-age snack

    The first Star Wars film hits the silver screen while Golden Wonder launches their own space-age snack.

  8. 1981 Golden Wonder launches Wheat Crunchies

    The UK’s Bucks Fizz win the Eurovision Song Contest, and Golden Wonder bring the country a brand new tasty snack with the launch of Wheat Crunchies.

  9. 1991 Golden Wonder launches Golden Lights

    As Brit Helen Sharman lands on the Mir Space Station, Golden Lights are launched with just 93 calories per bag.

  10. 1996 Golden Wonder crisps get a new look

    The Spice Girls burst out of nowhere with their debut single ‘Wannabe’ and Golden Wonder crisps get a makeover with a new look and new ‘Bursting with flavour’ tagline..

  11. 2003 The first Golden Wonder crisps cooked entirely in Sunflower oil

    The Congestion Charge is introduced to reduce traffic in London and Golden Wonder spread the word of their new crisp with a TV advertising campaign.

  12. 2006 Tayto Group Ltd buys Golden Wonder

    In football Steve McClaren takes over as the England team’s manager. While in the world of crisps and snacks manufacturers, Golden Wonder is taken over by Tayto (NI) Limited.

  13. 2007 Golden Wonder gets a redesign and new slogan

    Prince William opens the new Wembley Stadium as the new look Golden Wonder crisps are launched with tasty new advertising that includes the ‘Full on Flavours’ slogan.

  14. 2011 Launch of the Golden Wonder Snacking Range

    Golden Wonder launches its snacking range including the re-introduction of an old favourite RINGO's!

  15. 2012 Golden Wonder & Heinz a perfect partnership

    Golden Wonder launchs two new 'full on flavours' in partnership with Heinz.
